As the publishing arm of the Democracy School, Unruhe Media produces books, articles, and multimedia works that engage with the polycrisis reshaping our world. We platform voices from science, art, activism, and critical thought whose practices are transformed by -- and in turn transform -- our understanding of contemporary structural challenges.

Conceived as a multimedia format, this Substack is home to Unruhe Digital Media, combining a newsletter and the editor's blog with guest contributions, podcasts, and our AI-powered editions of re:frame and dis:kursiv.

Nico Heller (alias Nicodemus) is the founder and executive director of the Democracy School and the editor-in-chief of Unruhe Digital Media. He is also a European theatre director, dramaturge, and artist, with a keen interest in collaborative practices that cut across disciplinary boundaries.

We believe that what we publish on this site makes a vital contribution to public discourse and therefore also believe that everyone, regardless of their financial situation, should have access to it. This is why membership will always be free for those who genuinely cannot afford to subscribe.

At the same time, this publication thrives through reader support. Your subscription ensures we can remain independent whilst keeping our content accessible to all.
